There are many curiosities around dentistry, from legends and stories full of magic like the Tooth Fairy to many others, historically proven. In fact there are many curious facts that will surprise you.

1.- The Mayans and their dental jewelry: 2,500 years ago, the Mayans had an advanced knowledge of teeth and their materials. While many people today are content to whiten their teeth, back then it was not enough. The Mayan dentists used various tools to carve objects on the teeth, but above all the jewelry that they embedded in the teeth without breaking them stood out.

2.- Where was the Pérez Mouse born ?: This story began in 1894 in Spain, when the king’s son lost his first tooth. So the monarch and his priest decided to write the story for his heir. This novelty was very successful at the time and still lasts today.

3.- The street dentist: Before dentistry became a science, in the 18th century, blacksmiths and barbers were in charge of performing dental services. And despite the fact that over time, stomatology has become what we know today, many barbers continued their activity as dentists.

This curiosity is still used in some countries, since they use branches like those of cinnamon to wash the incisors. Although the first toothbrush dates from China, whose handle was made of bamboo, and had wild boar hair bristles for tooth brushing.

6.- Finally, flossing is more important than you think: Dentists believe that no matter how well we brush our teeth, if we don’t floss, we’re not doing things right. This is because flossing allows us to better reach various places on the teeth, and clean them more efficiently.
